Guest Researcher ~ Dr. Mark Knight ~ Topic: Student Voice Method: Action Research
Linda is AWESOME!! I have been able to find so many different resources just through her "pointers" tonight!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt was great learning about all of the resources that are available to us. Linda's info will make our lives easier. Thanks Linda!
ReplyDeleteLoved having Linda here tonight! It was nice to have a "live" guest speaker :) Now I just need to narrow my topic!!
ReplyDeleteI am on the same page April! It is definitely hard to narrow a topic.
DeleteHaving Linda was a great help! There is just so much out there and it can be so hard to navigate.
DeleteLinda was incredibly helpful. I think the next step is narrowing my topic down. Comparative Education in regards to leadership can be pretty broad. Thank you for all of your help!
ReplyDeleteMake sure to have the larger assignments in mind as you choose your two articles to review! In the Dr. Malone’s dropbox he has a former student article review on file. It is a 5 page review and really helped me visualize what I am doing.
ReplyDeleteQuantitative Article Critique
Exposing the Impact of Opp(reg)ressive Policies on Teacher Development and on Student Learning
Kassie Swenson
Credit Lisa K for showing me this!
It is listed under the “Q’s” scroll down to the bottom.
DeleteThanks for the reminder that there is a bigger picture with my research interest. I will have to take a look at Dr. Malone's dropbox!
DeleteI agree! It really helps to see an example of what this all should look like. Not so obscure when you see it done.
DeleteSo helpful to have opened up some of those search engines with Linda. It made it look a little less scary. Since I'm am not all the way in the program yet, Google Scholar is going to be my spot. Now I just have to pick a topic. I have narrowed it down to four choices. So, I guess I have a ways to go!! I'm loving to get to know all of you!! And thank you, Glen, for making this class fun!!
ReplyDeleteThis class has been fun! I am surprised how easy it's been to build community! I'm also feeling much better about dealing with all this technology.
DeleteThis class is fun! #VancouverSelfie
DeleteGlenn has done a great job helping us build a cyber community! I wasn't too sure about this satellite class, but it's been fun and the blog and all the resources have been super helpful!
DeleteI agree with you, April. AMS classes can be a mixed bag but this one has been a pleasure to be a part of!
DeleteI am feeling a little better about where and how to research my articles. I am hoping to get started on both articles while my husband is on the boat for the next week. I really appreciate how organized this class has been. Happy writing!
ReplyDeleteThe WSU library site has changed from last semester to this semester with the whole “Search It” thing. I feel like I think I’m just okay when it comes to searching for articles but I can’t wait to see what Linda has to say when I go back and watch the AMS. I think it will help make me a lot more comfortable with the whole process. While searching during class I have already found quite a few RTI/ELL journal articles.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded Zotero. I think it’s going to be helpful! It will be nicer than having to download or print out every article like I did for two literature reviews during the fall semester.
Zotero looks interesting. I'm uploading everything to my google drive to keep track. There is SO MUCH it is so important to organize! :)
DeleteI will have to look into Zotero! I have so many articles saved on my computer right now, but I swear I lose them in different folders!
DeleteThank you for noticing!! I thought something was different about the site but I couldn't put my finger on it!
DeleteI am also feeling much better on how to find articles! I was a little overwhelmed at first, but am feeling much better now. Good luck this weekend!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you as well!
DeleteI'm starting to see how all our assignments connect and lead us to our final project.... Ding! Ding! Ding!
ReplyDeleteI like that they are all related. Hopefully it could even connect to some our master’s projects!
DeleteNice - I love how things build on each other!!!
DeleteTotally agree. Outside of the info from Linda, that was my biggest take away from this session. Every assignment builds on the previous. We can do this!
DeleteHaha, you should have seen Glenn's face when you said that. He was waiting for someone's light bulb to come on! That was a great entry point to connecting the dots for our assignments.
DeleteAnd the fact that we can relate it to our current and next year work is a double bonus.
DeleteLinda did a great job showing us the resources the WSU library provides. It was also great to start researching. Looking forward to getting to know all of you more and see all of your selfies!! Have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI am one of those that enjoys the hunt. Like many of you the real struggle is paring down my research ideas (plural) to a research idea (singular). Thank you Linda for sharing google scholar. Thanks to my team for asking great clarification questions!
ReplyDeleteGoing to try to tackle an online organizational tool.....Zoltero (I thought this was from the game Jumanji!) or Google Scholar.
DeleteI am appreciative of the reminders of how to use Google Scholar and all the WSU services. Linda's knowledge and skill helped get me back going right away. I have settled into my topic of Zero Tolerance and Restorative Justice Programs in high schools. Using the search engines, was able to find three articles to read this weekend. I am feeling much better about the volume of work for the next few weeks. I am thankful that we can make it relevant to our work.
ReplyDeleteYes, Lisa. I also enjoy the aspect of the class. Thinking of our own practice, making the learning useful and practical-action research.
DeleteClass was awesome. Linda had some great pointers and I'm excited to try out a few things she showed us. The last exercise that we did got me thinking about my literature review and how I will structure my review. I really am still not sure where I am going with my topic because there isn't a lot of information out there on my topic area. Time to get to work!
ReplyDeleteWow, tried a few times last night to post it just wasn't working. Take four. Linda was amazingly helpful and I do feel like I'm getting closer to narrowing down my topic! I am feeling much better about the hunt for information, and now my stress is purely centered on my role as the constructor of the literature review. Eek.
ReplyDeleteI think my main take-away from last night was that there are tremendous resources available on campus for the purpose of finding research. My library research skills are subpar and I have not made enough use of what is available to me. I am making that a goal of mine this semester to improve. I am also challenging myself this week by working on my search terms in order to find a great breadth of research in my field.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying the practical approach of the class. There are many facets of learning going on at the same time, which is perfect. Thinking of learning that will improve my practice as a teacher, looking at application for admins, and thinking of the many ways to use technology in the classroom to enhance learning. The resources that Linda mention will be very helpful on this 6 weeks journey.
