Chapter four provided a lot of clarity for me. Each class I am feeling more and more prepared to write my review. I have to say I love the way Dr. Malone has put this class together. Feels like a community despite us being so far away from one another. I am beginning to see technology can REALLY increase student engagment when expectations are clear. :o)
ReplyDeleteI also really liked chapter 4... the organization is very clearly printed in a usable format!!
DeleteI totally agree with Solina! I am very impressed with our virtual community that we're creating! I am also very thankful for all the online resources that Dr.Malone is sharing with us, this could be helpful In our future positions, especially considering how the world of technology is entering our field.
DeleteProps to Glenn. Research methods is not necessarily the most exciting topic, and AMS doesn’t naturally lend itself to building a community. He has managed to make to class fun and bring us together.
DeleteI am the same way! Every week I feel more and more comfortable with my lit review and this class in general
DeleteAbsolutely agree! It's only been 4 secessions and I feel we are already a community. I have learned a tremendous amount in the way of utilizing technology in not only my classroom but as a collaboration method!
DeleteI've been enjoying when my phone explodes with text conversation. I've never had a class quite like this one!
DeleteGreat "big picture" view tonight:
ReplyDeleteTopic - Article - Annot. Bib - Lit Review - Research
It is nice to think through the different steps and realize we are just scratching the surface compared to someone looking to continue and really research a problem.
I completely agree that tonight was incredibly insightful.
DeleteThe amount of time and research that go into one action research project is incredible!
DeleteI agree. It is sometimes so difficult to think about the small parts but being able to see how the big parts play a role was awesome. Thanks, Dr. Malone!
DeleteTonight was very interesting. It was awesome to see the research process in action with Dr. Malone's research. It really made more clear. I just noticed today that I have a different edition of the book than everyone else because the lit. review I read has nothing to do with hookahs. haha
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Our first article critique is done and turned in! Great job guys :) I really appreciated everyone that reviewed my critique and gave me feedback. Couldn't have done it without you!
ReplyDeleteI also had great feedback to my article. I agree with other posts about how well our digital community is working. Earl, I haven't had a chance to be your partner yet but we will team up soon!
DeleteI am enjoying the contrasts of the two texts. Galvan takes a general approach while Mills is showing how you can put these research methods to work in the context of our individual work environments. It is a nice blend. Together they paint a very clear picture of what good, scholarly research is all about.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Mills gives some content understanding in the world of research while I am learning about the practical "how to" from Galvan.
DeleteChapter 4 in Galvan is going to be very helpful. I especially appreciate the examples. The idea of writing a literature review is becoming less and less scary. Thanks for asking questions everyone, I have benefited from them as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree! The questions that people ask are very helpful. We have a great group of people in the class from different backgrounds and I think that helps!
DeleteI am feeling like I better understand the end product. I continue to find enjoyment in reading quality literature.
ReplyDeleteThank you to whoever helped me be able to post on here again! I am very grateful! I really enjoyed the step by step model that was presented to us today! I love having steps to follow, helps me stay on track.
ReplyDeleteAnother great class!! I feel like I'm learning so much from all of you in our class discussions and hearing about your research. So, thank you for that! I really appreciate seeing the big picture of this class and then research in general. I'm also loving the lists!!!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, you all are amazing! After reading the text for class I feel like I am developing a better understanding of all the pieces I will need to organize before tackling the literature review. I am very appreciative of Dr. Malone for being so responsive to our anxieties towards the process. Here is to tackling a large chunk of the work this weekend!
ReplyDeleteKelsey, I completely agree. It is so nice to have a flexible professor as a grad student. Unlike being an undergrad we are balancing school, work, social life, kids, bills etc.... This is a great open for a first class. I think if it had been any different I would really stressed out. However, at the same time we are learning a TON so it's a great balance.
DeleteToday's class for me was more about my own personal struggles with deciding what to do for my masters program. Do I write a thesis or a comprehensive exam? I felt like today's class taught me a lot about doing research and I feel more comfortable if I decided to write a thesis that I would have had a great beginning to this process. We shall see what happens.
ReplyDeleteEarl I am feeling the same struggles! I have to do a thesis of some sort but I have heard about people doing them in different ways: literature review, podcast project, etc. This class has helped make the idea of the literature review a little less intimidating and more of a viable option.
DeleteI'm a little bit late to this party so I hope that my comments will be accepted. I really enjoyed hearing about Dr. Malone's research. The process that he went through was very interesting but the content was interesting because my background dabbling in online education. I think that hearing Dr. Malone take us through his thinking process helped me to think about where I am at and how foundational the lit review really is.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed hearing about Dr. Malone's research topic and his process of researching. The data collection sheets were crazy!! I am feeling a little better about the Lit Review as we read some examples and answer some questions. This class gets better every time we meet! I am learning quite a bit of information that will help me in the future!!
ReplyDeleteI found the online learning presentation particularly interesting. I know that my district offers some online classes through ALE and their Homelink homeschool program. I do not know much about the rigor of these courses. However I took an online Health class in high school because I could not fit it in my schedule while taking honors courses and newspaper and I remember it being a joke.
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of the comments in the presentation that online learning should be offered to some students for whom a traditional classroom doesn't work. I also think technology should be involved in the classroom since our world is becoming progressively driven by technology. I do wonder what the future social implications will be with online learning and/or technology in the classroom.
