  1. I like the format of Dr. Eveskeige's Annotated Bibliography. Greater than that though, I am so glad that this class brings us diverse style of research methods by a variety of people. New learning: autoethnographic process.

    1. I agree! My Bib is originally was structured in a similar way! Now I need to add all the rubric items!

    2. I really like it too! I think I'll try to blend both styles. I think it will help me prepare more effectively for my lit review.

  2. Yes - I loved that format also. Nice and clean, easy to pick out important info . . . if I ever write something really long I'd like to replicate this tool.

    1. Agreed. I like things simple and easy to use. I could see myself using something like that.

  3. This class was baller (colloquial word never appropriate for research). However, I enjoyed learning from this researcher. I really enjoy hearing about her journey through this auto-ethnographic study. It made me start to wonder about if I was to do one of these study and what it would look like for me. Who would I use to help me highlight things from my past and current situations? It makes you really think about the emotional journey that we go through as we learn more about ourselves too.

    1. I was also thinking about the emotional journey that she went through and how I don't know if I would be able to do research with such an emotional connection. It was very interesting!

    2. I agree! This typeof research would be so powerful and meaningful. I can kind of see why she doesn't want it "all out there." On the other hand, research is often completed to share results and create change. I wonder what one could learn from her dissertation?

    1. Yes! I agree :) it was nice to see some research that was completely different. I also love how she brought her own cultural twist to display her research.

    2. Since that class I have been trying to think of who I would talk with or interview in order to examine how my life and my culture has impacted my teaching. It's hard to picture besides my mom!

  5. I really enjoyed Dr. Eveskeige's ownership of her unique methodology. It is so important to be true to yourself ... and sharing this unique style could open the door for others to share their own ideas in their own style. Awesome!

    1. I agree! It is quite hard for me to write in the "academic" style.

    2. Definitely true. It provides the avenue to discuss stylistic approaches to research and how to better tell stories. I think that's why I find qualitative research so amazing because it is storytelling. I provide background and I tell the story of the people I interview.

  6. I was reflecting after her presentation. I would imagine it would be so difficult to be a school leader where government policy designates so many of the decisions a leader has to make while at the same time she had to be a leader that reflected cultural beliefs. I really enjoyed listening to her personal journey as she struggled through both roles.

    1. That is also one of my personal struggles. The balance between federal, state, district, administrative, and teacher agendas is very delicate. I think for the most part, all are pushing in the same direction. The issue is everyone's perception of how to get from A to B.

  7. Dr. Eveskeige's research method was fascinating. I imagine that it would be a lot easier to delve into and write about a system, theory, or program then it would be to look inside yourself and your history. Amy's dissertation was so outside the box...love it.

    1. Not sure if I could do it. Writing about a theory, system or program seems to safe in comparison.

  8. I really enjoyed Dr. Eveskeige's method of research. I really connected to it because when I write I like to use a narrative approach, because that is the way I think. She had some incredible experiences in her time. I would really like to read her work, however, I respect her request for privacy so I will forgo it.

  11. Tonight was wonderful. Dr. Eveskeige had me in a trance! What a powerful journey she was able to go on through her research. I would love to work under her as I can see that she is a very powerful leader. I really felt empowered by her work and encouraged myself as I enter into a leadership role. Her presentation left me asking myself the question, "How can my past and who I am, affect how I lead?"
    Fabulous class.

  12. It was great to hear some of Dr. Eveskeige's story. I really appreciated learning about another research method and how much of an impact this method can have. Her power point presentation was amazing! Very few words and mostly pictures, but those pictures described exactly what she wanted to say! She seemed to really enjoy her research and she seems like she is an amazing leader!!

  13. This was a really great class and I totally understand why Dr. Malone was excited for it. The idea of auto-ethnographic research was really fascinating. I would love to read the dissertation but I completely understand why Dr. Eveskeige would prefer not. The bibliography tool was really handy. I am holding on to that one. I had already written my annotated bibliography but I would like to use this tool to produce an annotated bib of the research that I have consumed over the years to prepare for my project defense. Great class! Thank you!

  14. Dr. Eveskeige's presentation was very interesting. It would be very difficult to try and pull yourself out of the process in order to interview family members. I'd never heard of the auto-ethnographic approach to a dissertation. Her presentation definitely made me consider the privilege that I have, not feeling pulled between two different cultures.
